Buying Property Abroad Uk
The second largest Channel Island of Guernsey, conveniently located between France and England, is truly a beautiful place in which to live. As crime rates are significantly lower than in the UK and local schools are of an exceptionally high standard, it is an ideal place for children to grow up.
However, property is very expensive compared to both France and the UK, making buying a home, particularly for first-time buyers quite a difficult business. Although in recent years, the island has seen a large increase in the number of apartments, especially along the seafront of St. Peter Port, with spectacular panoramic views across to the smaller islands of Sark and Herm.
Open Market Property in Guernsey, Channel Islands
Unlike most other places, Guernsey has a two category system for those wishing to purchase a residential property. Homes on the Open Market tend to be significantly more expensive than those on the Local Market and as such are far more likely to be owned by non-locals than locals. There are approximately 1,700 Open Market homes in the island's Housing Control Register which may be purchased by those having either an EU or UK passport.
