Most of us are shivering in frigid temperatures all over the U.S. this winter, but there are folks walking around in their shirt sleeves and shorts on Coronado Island, across the bay from San Diego. While weather maps on network TV stations show temperatures as low as 30 degrees below zero, temps are in the 70s most days in sun-filled San Diego.
First of all, Coronado is not really an island. It is really a peninsula, with San Diego Bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other.
"It's a small beach community with an island feel," Coronado Mayor Casey Tanaka explains.
